February 2012 ~ Astrology Update

Thursday, February 2nd, 2012

Continuing with our theme of the New Year, here’s a listing of when Mercury goes retrograde.

March 12 – April 4
July      14 – August 7
Nov.       6 – Nov. 26
Remember, these are times when it is best to meditate, take it easy and reflect.  It’s not a good time start new projects.  So plan your year accordingly.
Full moon in Leo at 18 degrees on Feb. 7th
Watch out on this Full Moon that you don’t get on an ego trip. With the Moon at 18 degrees Leo it’s full steam ahead with ambition, creative self-expression and leadership skills. But we need to be careful not to dominate others too much when we have the need to be admired and be the center of attention. If that were not enough, Mercury is conjoining the Sun in Aquarius and opposing the Moon. Although this combination can give us an easy flow of ideas and communication, it can also hinder objectivity of our behavior and how others see us.

Although mental stamina and energy abound with the full moon, unconscious emotional patterns can distort our conscious thinking so we are not as clear or objective as usual. The word here is balance! It’s easy to make up for your fog and get emotional gratification by binging on food and spending money.

We are also dealing with the energy of Saturn on this day, as it goes Stationary Retrograde in Libra. For up to a week before and after Feb. 7th, your physical and emotional energy may feel heavy or stuck. You may feel pressured by authority figures, expectations and responsibilities that have cropped up. This is a time to use the Leo Full moon energy to develop courage to face any danger or difficulty in your life.

During the next four months while Saturn is Retrograde will be a time to rework and refine your goals and figure out how you will achieve them. It can also be a time to improve the way you deal with authority, expectations, obligations and discipline.

This month marks Neptune moving into Pisces. For the next fourteen years we should expect to see the advancement of spiritual awareness, providing more peace in the world. Many of us may develop clairvoyant faculties along with exalted forms of art and music. This month, there are also three other planets joining Neptune in Pisces. Chiron, there since January, Mercury on Feb. 15th and the Sun on Feb. 20th.   This is a good time to work on your spiritual advancement and brush up on your dream techniques.   The New Moon  also joins the Pisces gang on Feb 21st.

New Moon in Pisces at 2 degrees on 21st of February

Take the high road with this New Moon and begin a new pattern based on healing yourself and being sensitive to others. Use your now vivid imagination for poetry or the arts, and be kind and sympathetic to your friends. Try not to feel too vulnerable with all that Pisces energy, as Chiron, Sun, Moon  and Neptune are all conjunct.

This New Moon urges us to comprehend our beliefs, secrets and mysteries that lie hidden in our unconscious, so it’s a good time to explore your dreams. With Chiron in the mix, it’s also time to work on our individuality and heal any lingering wounds we may still have with our parents. This is a time for spiritual work and opening to the cosmic energies  pouring into the planet at this time. Don’t fret if it all seems too overwhelming. Simply spend some time alone to get grounded and all will be well.

Chinese Astrology ~ 2012, Year of the Black Water Dragon

Thursday, February 2nd, 2012
Chinese Astrology ~ Year of the Black Water Dragon

Celebrated since ancient times, this year’s Chinese New Year marks it’s 4,709th year of festivities. As the most important holiday in Chinese culture, the New Year is celebrated on the second new moon after the Winter Solstice, and is a time for family reunions and delicious feasts. This year our new beginning started on January 23, 2012 (China time), and on the afternoon of January 22 in America.

The Chinese lunar calendar is cyclical and is based on 12 animals, each with their own significance, plus having the years organized by yin and yang, color and elements such as fire, air, earth and water. Unlike our western counterpart, the Chinese Dragon is always seen as Divine and beneficial. Although somewhat unpredictable, the dragon symbolizes auspiciousness, creativity, generosity, altruism and charitableness. Also seen as the spirit of change, the dragon can represent renewal and regeneration.

So what does our dragon have in store for us this year?

The Black (or yang) Water Dragon symbolizes great creativity on one side, and stormy weather on the other. The yang part of the equation could mean a year when money flows easily with high returns, if we take a lot of risks. And it can also mean that there may be many natural disasters. In contrast, Water tends to tone things down, like putting out a fire. It exudes calmness and empathy where it can heal Mother Earth’s temper, and help us to reap spiritual progress from cleansing and renewing our body, mind and spirit.

In fact, according to the Taoist perspective, your whole year’s fortune depends on how you begin it. They say it’s a time to purify yourself and become humble enough to receive the New Year’s energies. Astrological Update for the Year 2012

Monday, January 2nd, 2012

January begins with all the planets being direct until Jan. 23.  This is a time to move forward in your lives, clarify your plans and goals, and set positive intentions for the coming year.

Retrograde Mars in Virgo (from January 24th to  April 13th) Offers us an opportunity to gain insight into our unconscious motivations instead of worrying or brooding about personal health issues, work, or our daily lives.

February 3rd, Neptune enters its own sign Pisces and will stay there until January 2026. A gateway to higher consciousness in humanity, the abilities of clairvoyance, music, artistic sensitivity, mysticism, and healing will be highlighted, along with the beginnings of a more caring, peaceful society.

From May 14th to June 24th Venus the planet of love, beauty and the feminine principal is retrograde. When retrograde in a person’s birth chart it usually means a challenge in loving oneself, or finding value in who we are. On June 6th during this retrograde period Venus Crosses the Face of the Sun in a rare configuration that happens every 105 -125 years. Called an Occultation it always comes in pairs, both either in Gemini or Sagittarius .The last one happened eight years ago in 2004.

So What Does This Mean?

Past occultations of Venus and the Sun in Gemini have brought about new explorations in communication and brought humanity closer together. The Mayans see the 2012 configuration as an opening to higher consciousness. So if we do our inner work and release old thought patterns that no longer serve us, or the world, perhaps we can bring in the light of the Sun, evolve our consciousness and shift the collective thought patterns of humanity to serve the Earth and its peoples instead of harming them.

Although Pluto/Uranus remain square to each other until 2015, this year they form two exact squares on June 24th and September 19th. If you remember from past newsletters, Pluto is the planet that tears everything down first, and then builds something new from its ashes of destruction. Uranus is a planet that needs unbridled freedom to initiate the new.

Together they are associated with cultural upheaval and change. Personally it’s a time to know how we want to transform our lives, and move forward. In this way we can ride the wave instead of feeling submerged in fear or resistance. The main message here is go with the flow, and don’t get caught in the undertow.

When Jupiter enters Gemini on June 11th for about a year, energetic changes in communication and learning can be expected, along with love of philosophy, mind expansion, and new advanced intellectual ideas in society.

An extremely rare Mutual Reception between Saturn in Scorpio and Pluto in Capricorn forms when Saturn enters Scorpio on October 5th and stays until Christmas Eve 2014.  Some astrologers look at the Mutual Reception to mean that the planets behave as if they are in their own signs, however  I see a Mutual Reception as mixed-up energies and a place of challenge before success can be met.

On an astrological chart Pluto rules the 8th House  (joint resources, joint values, power, transformation & death) and Saturn rules the 10th House (authority figures, career, destiny), so this configuration may indicate more power struggles for authority between the people and government, and further unrest in the global economy. However, once these energies are balanced, there is the promise of reorganization of financial structures and government that serve humanity.

Winter Solstice, December 21, when our sun and the entire solar system are in perfect alignment with the center of our galaxy, here on Earth we will also be undergoing an uncommon aspect called a Yod, or sometimes called  “The Finger of Destiny”.

A Yod is comprised of two quincunxes (difficult & awkward aspects) and a sextile (easy flowing aspect). This configuration has Pluto  (9 degrees Capricorn) & Saturn ( 9 degrees Scorpio) in sextile to each other, while both are quincunx to Jupiter (9 degrees Gemini). The Apex planet, in this case Jupiter, is the focal point for the energies.

Generally speaking a Yod entails a choice of two roads, yet not knowing where either one will take you.   Following instinct, we simply find ourselves veering off onto another path and changing the course of our lives.   Although undefined, the new direction has actually been gathering strength for many years. And after activating the Yod, you soon realize that you have a hidden knowlege of how to proceed and be successful.

Coupled with Pluto and Saturn’s mutual reception, the Yod of 2012′s Winter Solstice alludes to a time where we have the power to regenerate ourselves and the world from unrest and chaos through discipline and hard work, while learning to look at situations realistically, release our fears and dogmatic attitudes and move on toward new opportunities.

As discussed in past newsletters, the Mayans see this as a time of awakening and moving into a higher consciousness of reality for mankind.

Astrological Update: December 2011

Thursday, December 1st, 2011

Remember, Mercury will continue to be retrograde until December 14th, so don’t start any new projects or sign contracts until after that date. Get ready for a dynamic day on December 10th that also holds far reaching affects with a Full Moon, total Lunar Eclipse, at 18 degrees Gemini.

Folks from Alaska, northern Canada, to Australia, New Zealand, and central and eastern Asia will be able to view the eclipse for it’s entire 51 minute duration. Viewers in most of North America and Hawaii will see the moon set still in eclipse, while people on the west coast of the US and Canada will see the beginning of totality just as the moon disappears below the horizon.

This eclipse will pack a punch on all types of communication, giving an assortment of mixed messages. Mercury retrograde and the lunar eclipse will try to blunt what we want to say, while Uranus moving direct on that day, will give birth to new, spontaneous ideas, opportunities and the spirit of adventure.  And the Full Moon in Gemini can give us a vacillating, although quick witted and resourceful thoughts.

Venus at 16 degrees Capricorn also forms a quincunx to the Moon and Eclipse at 18 degrees Gemini. This awkward aspect may exemplify our feelings of inadequacy with our values, appearance, relationships, and self-worth.  Also in the mix is Mars at 13 degrees Virgo squaring the Sun and Moon, adding impulsive behavior, emotional turmoil, independence, frustration and anger.

Whew! I think this is a good to stay out of trouble by staying in bed all day.

Winter Solstice, the shortest day of the year happens on December 21, and the New Moon at 2 degrees Capricorn occurs on Christmas Eve. Although this earthy moon favors practical activities, it will be conjunct (close together) to Pluto and square (challenge) to Uranus. Again watch out for your emotions and do your inner work as emotional depth, moodiness and emotional excitement abound.

And finally some good news! Christmas day Jupiter ends it’s four month retrograde period, marking the return of light, hope and optimism for the future

November 2011 Astrology Update

Wednesday, November 2nd, 2011

Mercury goes retrograde from Nov. 20 – Dec. 14 and may put a damper on Holiday sales. Remember to use this time wisely to finish up old projects, meditate and relax. On Nov. 3, both Venus and Mercury move into Sagittarius helping you to have fun and adventure in love, socialization and decision-making. Take care of your Biorhythms when they take a jolt, as we turn our clocks back an hour to standard time on Sunday, Nov. 6th.

Neptune goes Direct on Nov. 9th after five months of being retrograde. This is a good time to recognize any deceptions, dependencies or cover-ups that have plagued you since last June. Now you will now have more clarity of what’s really going on.

A Full Moon, at 18 degrees Taurus on Nov. 10th reminds us to take care of our bodies, our needs and to find balance in our changing world. The Taurus full moon helps us move ahead by facing reality and what needs to be done. Here we use stamina, determination and persistence to plough through any obstacles that arise, as we bring things to a happy conclusion.

With the Sun in Scorpio and Moon in Taurus both practicality and passion are brought to our endeavors, so it’s time to finish and bring creative projects to a close. Because both of these signs are fixed, whatever we accomplish will have a lasting effect.

The New Moon on the 25th of Nov., 2 degrees Sagittarius, is the last of four solar eclipses this year, and the one this month is only a partial one, seen from the regions of Antarctica to New Zealand. With three other planets also in Sagittarius (Venus, Mercury & Sun), we can look forward to a rather super-charged day. Be careful though, Sagittarius tends to be a little too optimistic and looks towards the highest possibilities instead of what is real and grounded in the now.

With Mercury Retrograde there is also a good chance that there will be some communication and travel mix-ups during the Thanksgiving Holiday. On the bright side, this is a new cycle of adventure beckoning you to move towards growth. So take some risks, but keep the big picture in mind.

Look to your charts to see if you have any planets close to 2 degrees in any of the signs. If so, this Solar Eclipse will affect you the most.

Astrological Update ~ October 2011

Thursday, September 29th, 2011

This October we are in for a truly emotional, yet transformative month with three personal planets moving into Scorpio, plus having the New Moon there as well.

When Venus moves into Scorpio on Oct. 9, for the entire month, watch out for high passion, sex and romance.  Reactions to personal relationships may tend to be emotional and your desires intense.  Mercury joins her for the rest of the month on Oct. 14th, giving us profound insights to pressing issues, but watch how you phrase your words, as they may be too direct or sharp.

On Monday Oct. 24th the Sun moves into Scorpio and will be a good time to hone your creative use of will.  Plunge deeply into all that you do. Release and transform old patterns of behavior into new ones.

The Aries Full Moon is conjoined with Uranus and squared by Pluto on Oct. 12th, so expect the unexpected in your emotional nature, actions and the world around you.

The New Moon on Oct. 26th at 3 degrees Scorpio this month is a mixed bag with Jupiter opposing it at 5 degrees Taurus, and Sextiling Pluto at 5 degrees Capricorn. This configuration urges us to begin a new life cycle by not getting carried away when new opportunities come your way. Make sure you give yourself a reality check so you can deliver what you promise. With Pluto in the mix, you should be able to curb your desires for over eating and use your creative imagination and will to improve affairs in both your business and home life. It’s a good time to clean out a closet and find new uses for old possessions. The key words are renew, release and transform.

Astrological Update: September 2011

Saturday, September 3rd, 2011

The month of September is packed full of surprises.  Below are some of the highlights.

You may find yourself wondering what your true purpose in life really is this month, as Jupiter turns retrograde on August 30th and remains there until November 2nd. This planetary action may also have a dramatic effect on your  dreams, so pay close attention to their meanings.  With Jupiter Retrograde you may also see opportunities knocking at your door from ground work you may have planted during the last nine months when Jupiter was direct.

Continue your deep innerwork on Monday, September 12th as the moon becomes Full in Pisces, or use your heightened sensitivities to create something new in the material world or the romance scene.  However, be careful not to dip too deeply into partying or you may regret it the next day.

Pluto turns direct on September 16th, helping us to release pent up feelings and issues that have been building since this planet went retrograde in April.  This would be a good time to use flower essences or emotional healing work to mitigate explosive behavior.

This month marks the official end of Summer and the beginning of Fall when the Sun goes into Libra on Friday September 23rd, and we celebrate the Fall Equinox.  Remember this is the time of year when we have equal time for day and night, and the veil between the worlds is very thin.  It’s a good time for ceremony or ritual, or simply turning inward for meditation and contemplation.

We end September with a bang with the New Moon in Libra on the 27th. Here there will be a conjunction of the Sun, Moon, and Mercury, plus a square to Pluto and opposition to Uranus. This configuration will force us to think and feel very differently about our lives and how to take appropriate action when needed. Try and stay harmonized and balanced when chaos knocks on your door.  To encourage real evolutionary shifts at this time, we  all need to boost our courage and confront our fear and emotional  insecurities.

August 2011 Astrological Update

Monday, August 1st, 2011

Mercury Retrograde is here again for three weeks from August 2nd to August 26th.  Remember this is a time to finish up old projects and do inner work.  Watch out for communication mix-ups.

With Mars moving into Cancer for six weeks, look forward to an emphasis on the home, family and emotions.  The first week of August Neptune retrogrades back into Aquarius until 2012, and this brings us gently out of our spirituality, and focuses us back onto the influences of the computer world on humanity and society as a whole.

With the Full Moon on August 13th, opposing Venus while trining  Saturn, lookout for a conflict between your desire for over-indugence in sweets and material goods, and your common sense that guards against such things.  Emotions run high with this Venus position, while Saturn gives you a sense of responsibility in carrying out obligations and the know how of strengthening your endeavors by building on  foundations already in place.

This month the New Moon falls on August 28th at
15 degrees Virgo. This is a good time to begin new projects such as exercise regimens, organizing your closets, doing some inner work, or volunteering for a community project. With the new moon conjunct Mercury at 18 degrees Virgo, and Venus 10 degrees Virgo, you can add to the above suggestions with new ideas of redecorating your home and working on your emotional issues.

Solar Eclipses

Monday, July 11th, 2011

Viewed with dread in ancient times, the Solar Eclipse was seen as an ill-fated omen of large-scale events to come in the near future.

Originally taken from the Greeks, the word eclipse means abandonment and was seen in ancient times as the Sun abandoning the Earth.  And many ancient cultures believed that this was a time that the Sun was attacked by demons or dragons.  The ancient cultures of India, China, Egypt, Peru, and Babylon alike warned their people about these times through their mythologies and story telling.

Because Solar Eclipses tend to portray sudden events that come out of nowhere and disrupt our daily lives we can easily understand how the people’s of old interpreted the Solar Eclipse a time of doom.
