Astrological Update: September 2011

Saturday, September 3rd, 2011

The month of September is packed full of surprises.  Below are some of the highlights.

You may find yourself wondering what your true purpose in life really is this month, as Jupiter turns retrograde on August 30th and remains there until November 2nd. This planetary action may also have a dramatic effect on your  dreams, so pay close attention to their meanings.  With Jupiter Retrograde you may also see opportunities knocking at your door from ground work you may have planted during the last nine months when Jupiter was direct.

Continue your deep innerwork on Monday, September 12th as the moon becomes Full in Pisces, or use your heightened sensitivities to create something new in the material world or the romance scene.  However, be careful not to dip too deeply into partying or you may regret it the next day.

Pluto turns direct on September 16th, helping us to release pent up feelings and issues that have been building since this planet went retrograde in April.  This would be a good time to use flower essences or emotional healing work to mitigate explosive behavior.

This month marks the official end of Summer and the beginning of Fall when the Sun goes into Libra on Friday September 23rd, and we celebrate the Fall Equinox.  Remember this is the time of year when we have equal time for day and night, and the veil between the worlds is very thin.  It’s a good time for ceremony or ritual, or simply turning inward for meditation and contemplation.

We end September with a bang with the New Moon in Libra on the 27th. Here there will be a conjunction of the Sun, Moon, and Mercury, plus a square to Pluto and opposition to Uranus. This configuration will force us to think and feel very differently about our lives and how to take appropriate action when needed. Try and stay harmonized and balanced when chaos knocks on your door.  To encourage real evolutionary shifts at this time, we  all need to boost our courage and confront our fear and emotional  insecurities.

August 2011 Astrological Update

Monday, August 1st, 2011

Mercury Retrograde is here again for three weeks from August 2nd to August 26th.  Remember this is a time to finish up old projects and do inner work.  Watch out for communication mix-ups.

With Mars moving into Cancer for six weeks, look forward to an emphasis on the home, family and emotions.  The first week of August Neptune retrogrades back into Aquarius until 2012, and this brings us gently out of our spirituality, and focuses us back onto the influences of the computer world on humanity and society as a whole.

With the Full Moon on August 13th, opposing Venus while trining  Saturn, lookout for a conflict between your desire for over-indugence in sweets and material goods, and your common sense that guards against such things.  Emotions run high with this Venus position, while Saturn gives you a sense of responsibility in carrying out obligations and the know how of strengthening your endeavors by building on  foundations already in place.

This month the New Moon falls on August 28th at
15 degrees Virgo. This is a good time to begin new projects such as exercise regimens, organizing your closets, doing some inner work, or volunteering for a community project. With the new moon conjunct Mercury at 18 degrees Virgo, and Venus 10 degrees Virgo, you can add to the above suggestions with new ideas of redecorating your home and working on your emotional issues.

Solar Eclipses

Monday, July 11th, 2011

Viewed with dread in ancient times, the Solar Eclipse was seen as an ill-fated omen of large-scale events to come in the near future.

Originally taken from the Greeks, the word eclipse means abandonment and was seen in ancient times as the Sun abandoning the Earth.  And many ancient cultures believed that this was a time that the Sun was attacked by demons or dragons.  The ancient cultures of India, China, Egypt, Peru, and Babylon alike warned their people about these times through their mythologies and story telling.

Because Solar Eclipses tend to portray sudden events that come out of nowhere and disrupt our daily lives we can easily understand how the people’s of old interpreted the Solar Eclipse a time of doom.

July 2011 Astrological Eclipse Update

Thursday, June 30th, 2011

On July 1st, we have the 3rd eclipse in a rare cycle of three in a row, (June 1st we had a partial Solar eclipse and June 15th a total Lunar eclipse). This third astrological eclipse takes place on the New Moon at 9º Cancer, and is another partial Solar eclipse that will only be visible from a D-shaped region in the Antarctic Ocean south of Africa.

Although Solar Eclipses tend to bring endings to current life directions and the opening of new doorways, this one may be more potent than usual as it is also in the formation of a Cardinal Grand Cross with the planets of Saturn (10º Libra, Uranus 4º Aries, and Pluto 6º Capricorn).

To work with this configuration we must trust life and ourselves as we deal with the challenges that arise. This period marks a time of unexpected crisis and transformation in the areas of home and work and a time of increasing responsibilities.  The energies of the Saturn and Uranus opposition wrestle with responsibility to others verses the need to do your own thing, while Pluto opposing the Sun and Moon bring up instinctual and survival issues.  With four close squares in this configuration we can expect lot’s of tension and anxiety as we try to figure out what to do. Try not to get lost in your fears as you work with the above themes and reassess your commitments for their long term practicality.

Look to see where this Grand Cross falls in your birthchart for your own personal interpretation, or give me a call for a professional reading, (919) 942-7754.

June 2011: Astrology Update

Tuesday, May 31st, 2011

The featured Astrology occurrences for June 2011 are two eclipses.  The first one is a partial Solar Eclipse occurring on June 1st  where the Sun and Moon are conjunct (next to each other) at 11 degrees, 1 minute Gemini, while also forming a trine to Saturn.

Because the Sun and Moon also square (tension & conflict) Chiron and Neptune in Pisces, there may be confusion in sorting out your thoughts.  So meditation will give a boost to clearing away the cobwebs and bringing forth a clear mind so you can bring forth the new changes in your life as indicated by this eclipse: calling you to heal your psyche by illuminating your individuality.  The new moon in Gemini asks you to begin a new project dealing with communication in some way.  Forming a close trine (easy going) to this eclipse, Saturn will easily bring in form and structure to any changes made at this time.  And being retrograde, Saturn will also help support us bring old projects to fruition in a new or novel way.

The second eclipse occurs June 15th and is a Total Lunar Eclipse at 24 degrees and 23 minutes Sagittarius, exactly opposite the Sun in Gemini.   With Mercury conjunct the Sun and Saturn in Libra still opposing Uranus, square Pluto, this eclipse asks us to redefine and rethink all of our relationships, whether they be lovers, co-workers, friends or family.  This is equally a time to make sure that our thoughts are in balance with our emotions and heading towards the same goals.

Although astrologers have historically seen the Total Lunar Eclipse to be malific, a new enlightened way of viewing this occurrence is to heed it’s wake-up call for change and action.

The key to working with this eclipse is to adapt, improvise and work with the situations that  are presented.  If you handle your issues in this way, you will probably be able to circumvent any difficulties that arise.

Look to see where Gemini and Sagittarius fall in your astrology birth chart or Solar Return.   Here you will see how these eclipses affect you personally.

May 2011 Astrological Update

Wednesday, May 4th, 2011

This month is indeed interesting.  It begins with the Taurus new moon on the 2nd, bringing in new projects of beauty and balance.

Then on May 9th – 13th there is  a very rare planetary alignment of Mercury, Venus, Mars and Jupiter that can be seen visible to the naked eye as bright planetary bodies grouped together just before sunrise.  The last time they were seen together was over one hundred years ago in October 1910.  This alignment brings auspicious energy for success, opportunities, personal strength and potency.

With the full moon in Scorpio on May 17th, watch for the release of hidden emotions that you no longer need.

And then your good luck continues with another unusual planetary alignment of Mercury, Venus and Mars all in Taurus between May 21st – 26th when these planets are between 1 to 5 degrees of each other.  Watch for a lot of energy in diplomatic communication and writing, with passion toward creativity and  sensual emotions.

Earthquakes & Planetary Alignments

Saturday, April 2nd, 2011

Well, Uranus certainly entered Aries with a bang! For those of you who are not in the know, it was the same day the 8.9 Earthquake hit Japan.  Is this just coincidence or can astrological alignments have an influence on the Earth’s seismic activity?

I’ve been watching earthquake patterns nearly everyday for the last two years, and I think there is something to examine here. Last year Greece, Italy, and the Middle East were getting slammed everyday with small earthquakes (2′s and 3′s).  Along the eastern Asian coastlines and Indonesia, part of the Ring of Fire, earthquakes measured mostly at 3′s, 4′s, and 5′s.  (The Ring of Fire is aptly named because of its prolific volcanic and earthquake activity, and stretches from the west coast of South America, going up the US west coast, around the Alaskan coast, over to the eastern coast of Siberia, Japan, China, and down through Indonesia to New Zealand.)

The day after last July’s Cardinal Grand Cross, the pattern of earthquake activity suddenly changed. Europe and the Middle East were no longer getting any, and the magnitude of earthquake intensity along the Asian coast and Indonesia increased significantly.  These patterns are still holding true today.   It will be interesting to see what happens this July when the Uranus/Pluto square is within a one degree orb, and during June and July when this year’s Cardinal Grand Cross moves into position. (The grand cross involves Saturn, Uranus and Pluto. with the the Sun in Cancer as the forth point for a number of days, and then Venus in Cancer continues to sustain the alignment, totaling a 3 week period of time. (approx. June 26 -July 13).

This month…Neptune makes a temporary shift into Pisces, triggering a move away from technology and forward towards compassion for the planet, people and environment.  And Pluto begins a five month period of retrograde.  So the next few months will be an excellent time to review and finish processing your transformations from the past year.

Astrological Aries in the Limelight: March 2011

Friday, March 4th, 2011

This month Aries, the most masculine sign of the zodiac is in the limelight.  Mercury will be in Aries when it goes Retrograde on March 30th, and will stay in this sign for nearly three months.   As Mercury rules the mind, and Aries rules impulsiveness and unbridled action, it will  probably be a good idea to watch what you say during this time period.  Remember, Mercury Retrograde is a time to tie up loose ends and not start projects, so when you feel that burst of mental energy luring you into a task, make sure to use it finishing up things, instead of forging forward.

On March 13th, Uranus will end a seven-year cycle of being in the sign of Pisces, and enter Aires and stay there until 2018. Those of you who have Planets in cardinal signs, (Capricorn, Aries, Cancer or Libra), will be affected more than the rest of us.  This planetary sign and planet combination will activate your impulse for freedom and be sure to clean out anything in your life, that is no longer working for you, in the next few years.

It will also mark the beginning of a Uranus/Pluto square that will continue for many years.  As the square denotes conflict and challenge, expect to see fireworks fly.  Uranus represents spontaneous combustion, and Pluto symbolizes, construction through destruction, we may see a break down in societal institutions, and much transformation in our own lives.

And on March 28th, Jupiter in Aries and Saturn in Libra will begin an opposition, that will need balancing in the next few weeks.  Watch out for your personal pleasures and desires, interfering with your professional and relationship responsibilities.

March 20th the Spring Equinox marks the Sun moving into the first degree of Aries.  This is one of two days during the year that we have equal time of day and night.

Your Sun Sign: Will it Change?

Tuesday, February 1st, 2011

Recently there was a huge panic in the news, and online, that everyone’s Sun Sign would be changing because of the Earth’s wobble.  This is simply not true and here’s why.

What is new for the masses, is old hat for astrologers.  We have known about the wobble and precession of the ages for thousands of years.

What is Precession of the Ages?
Because the Earth’s axis wobbles, the stars and constellations appear to slowly rotate around the Earth, and this causes the plane of the ecliptic (the constellations) to shift very slightly each evening.    It takes about  2,160 years for the vernal equinox to move into another zodiacal constellation, and about 26,000 years to complete a full cycle.  This movement is called precession of the ages.  Hence, the talk of moving from the Age of Pisces, to the Age of Aquarius.

Why does this phenomena not affect our Sun Signs?

For most western astrologers like myself, our astrological system (Tropical) is based on how the earth rotates around the sun, so that our points of reference are the solstices and equinoxes.  In this system Precession is irrelevant.  However, for astrologers who follow the Indian Vedic system (Sidereal),  procession will change a person’s sign.  The nice thing about astrology is that both these systems are valid and accurate.  They simply focus on different information.

What about the new sign Ophicuhus? As you may remember from a past newsletter, this sign is not new either.  Recognized in ancient times, Ophiuchus resides between Scorpio and Sagittarius, and is  known as the Serpent Healer, the symbol of eternal life. It also has the ability to prevent death through healing, and can also resurrect you from death.  For some reason, it was removed from the zodiac a long time ago.  Perhaps it was simply easier to work with the number 12, rather than 13, or maybe it was cast off when the Goddess religions fell from favor.  In any case, astrologers are not going to add it back into the mix any time soon.

2011 Astrological Overview

Monday, January 10th, 2011

Here are some dates that may come in handy later in the year.
Mercury Retrogrades

3/30/11 – 4/23/11
8/3/11 – 8/26/11
11/24/11 – 12/14/11
Remember these are times you don’t want to start new projects, or sign contracts, for you will encounter major delays in your endeavors, and miscommunication.

There is a partial solar eclipse on January 4th,that occurs at 13 degrees, 38 minutes Capricorn, and will be especially felt by people who have planets in Aries, Cancer, Libra and Capricorn around thirteen degrees.

During this eclipse, there will be a stellium (many planets lined up in a row) of North Node, Pluto, Sun, Moon, and Mars in Capricorn, with Sun, Moon and Mars square to Saturn in Libra.  Although these squares may seem challenging to us, they will also push us into action to accomplish something.  And with Saturn there, along with the new moon, it will be a good time to begin seeding a new foundation for our 2011 goals and activities.

The major event for 2011 will be the partial solar eclipse at 9 degrees Cancer on July 1, 2011, as Saturn, Uranus, and Pluto will form a T-square. With the addition of the eclipse, this configuration will form another grand cross in the heavens.  Get ready for some fireworks, as Pluto, the planet of transformation, squares Uranus, the planet of Revolution, while both oppose Saturn the planet of resistance, and structure.  Stay tuned to see more about these happenings, later in the year.
